Keeara Rhoades Biography

Multimedia Artist, Keeara Rhoades was born and raised on the Wyoming side of the Black Hills. She is curious and devoted to meaning-making. She spends her time constructing, deconstructing, and reconstructing. Her practice is a perpetual cycle, sometimes Sisyphean, mostly a cavernous narrative grounded by conditions of first, second, and third nature.

Graduating Summa Cum Laude (BFA 2005, Herron School of Art, Indianapolis), Keeara continued her studies in PhotoMedia at the University of Washington (MFA 2005-08); studied studio art abroad in Rome; co-led Art in Spain study abroad (UW 2013). She has exhibited nationally and internationally, with productions in Italy, Spain, and China. Her ongoing saga “Cutie Beauty & The Trailer Of Doom!” employs themes of memetics, imitation theory, and human adaptive systems for meaning-making to create a mereological person, Cutie Beauty, whose disposition shifts from part-relation into whole-human formation.

While living and working as an exhibiting artist in Seattle for over a decade, Keeara began cultivating her art practice, centered around artist collaborations, multi-media film productions, script and song writing, playing drums, and performing. Keeara relocated to Billings, Montana Summer of 2017, accepting a tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Art in New Media Photography at Montana State University Billings. Recent productions include, an art film inspired by the life and work of Arshile Gorky, created for the Yellowstone Art Museum; a multi-media performance, “Digging in the Dugout”, hosted by 4ZERO7 Gallery; and a solo exhibition at MUSB’s Northcutt Steele Gallery, “The Prize Inside” (OCT2019).
